Art Sheffield 2010 – Life: A User’s Manual is a citywide contemporary art event showcasing artwork by locally, nationally and internationally based artists.

This is their fifth event, organised by Sheffield Contemporary Art Forum, to take place since 2001 and takes the form of a single exhibition, spread across the city’s gallery spaces: Bloc, Millennium Gallery, S1 Artspace, Site Gallery, Yorkshire Artspace, Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery, and the public realm.

The exhibitions will run from 6th March to 1st May 2010.

Yesterday saw the first ‘open consultation’ for Sheffield’s bid to become the first UK City of Culture in 2013 at The Millennium Galleries (which was hosted by Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy).  We were asked to invite a few of the key people working in the city’s creative/cultural industries along.

The event itself showed there was a good mix of people from various backgrounds who support Sheffield’s bid.  There is still a lot of work to do, but the shortlist should be announced early December…

Eitherway, win or lose, we should use this opportunity to come together, show off what the city has to offer and build on the momentum…
